Back
to School!

The Labor Day holiday
traditionally marks the end of summer and brings with it the start
of another school year.
Fairfax County Public
Schools open on Tuesday, September 7.
Please drive carefully and watch out for children walking to and
from the bus and standing at the bus stop.
When a school bus has its red lights flashing,
drivers in both directions must stop. The only exceptions are:
• If the bus stops on a divided
highway, opposing traffic does not have to stop.
• Only police officers or school crossing guards can direct you
to continue around the bus.
Remember, if a police officer pulls you over
for passing a school bus, you can be charged
with reckless driving.

Welcome
to Franklin Farm ...
We are a community
of 1,777 homes, encompassing 850 acres, located in western Fairfax County.
Franklin Farm is approximately 20 miles from Washington, D.C., and 4 miles
from the Dulles International Airport. Our neighborhoods lie between
the primary entrances of West Ox Road on the east and Centreville
Road on the west. We are easily accessible to Fairfax and Reston via the
Fairfax County Parkway that runs north/south through the center of our
community.
We are particularly
proud that 182 acres of open space are spread throughout our neighborhoods
to offer a recreational environment for our residents. Our facilities
include tot lots, tennis courts, basketball courts, hiking trails, and
swimming pools. Our residents are friendly, caring individuals who traditionally
give of themselves to make Franklin Farm the nice place that we like to
call "Our Community ... Our Home!"

Earthen
Dam Restoration Nearly Complete
The view of Tuckaway Pond
below provides a picture of the progress at the end of August on the effort
to restore the earthen dams in our community.

During this project, hundreds of trees, shrubs, and bushes were removed,
the inflow and outflow areas for the ponds were cleaned out, and silt
and underwater plants were cleared. Grass has been planted to prevent
erosion, and the silt screens will remain until the grass is firmly established.
At the project’s end, the Foundation will cut the grass on a regular schedule
recommended by Fairfax County. No trees, shrubs, bushes, ground
cover, or flowers will be allowed to be planted on the dams in the future.
Residents living by the ponds must restrict any planting to their own
property.
The project is scheduled to be completed by September 24. Your patience,
support, and cooperation during this important undertaking are much appreciated.
